During a medically-assisted detox, individuals are stabilized in a safe, clinical setting and monitored by staff around-the-clock for 5-10 days, depending on their needs. Experienced doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals carefully observe the person through this challenging first step in recovery.
Clients are clinically supervised at an inpatient detox level of care by highly-trained and certified staff to ensure safe withdrawal from chemical substances. Clients receive a comprehensive health and social assessment to obtain information valuable for medication management and the stabilization of potential co-occurring medical or mental health complications.
Our clinical staff is available within the facility to assist in therapeutic intervention, motivation, and reevaluation of treatment protocols whenever necessary. Individuals are encouraged to participate in the inpatient group schedule but are not required to do so if complications interfere.
Included in Inpatient Programs:
- Staff coverage, which provides for 24/7 staff availability, medical and nursing care, and scheduled psychiatric visits
- Limited caseload, meaning that no primary counselor may have a caseload that is greater than a pre-determined number of individuals
- Meals, including three square meals per day as well as snacks, as approved by a certified nutritionist
In our residential level of care, clients are encouraged to participate in a daylong schedule of clinical activities, including small process groups, individual therapy, educational sessions, and self-help and peer support groups. Individuals are asked to engage in a minimum number of hours of treatment activities per week. During this time, those in our care reside in a structured living environment with access to nursing and mental health and medical staff supervision around-the-clock.
Our program employs a multi-disciplinary treatment team approach intended to address each person’s individual needs. Included in this treatment process is the expected management of his or her current functioning deficit. These shortfalls may intensify the client’s physical dependence due to unaddressed and unresolved complications.

- Social ineptness as a result of past traumatic experiences
- Incongruent vocational skills which may be a catalyst for low self-worth or self-esteem
- Inter- or intrapersonal challenges that deprive them of adequate self-awareness or the ability to communicate
- effectively and ask for help when needed
The treatment modalities may include the following:
- Lectures and psychoeducation sessions
- 12-step support and process groups
- Individual and family counseling

The treatment team will consist of the Clinical Director and resident therapists. Licensed clinicians or certified addiction professions facilitate all educational and group therapy sessions.
The program is non-secure, and as such, transfers between other hospital programs may also occur for other therapeutic or medical purposes, which will be thoroughly explained to the individual.
A caseload group is a small process group led by a counselor and includes those in his or her personal caseload. The counselor is allowed to concentrate on deep-rooted issues and encourage individuals to relate to each other and provide feedback. The counselor can also assist caseload members by working through treatment plan goals, administer assignments, and address any self-defeating behaviors.
Recovery and Relapse Prevention
In peer groups, the individual will focus on recovery and the actions needed to achieve long-lasting sobriety, including obtaining a sponsor, understanding the 12-step process, and gaining insight into how the steps are implemented. The individual will learn to identify triggers and emotions that may lead to relapse. Cues and triggers include specific thoughts and feelings, environment, people, places, and situations. The person will then develop a relapse prevention plan to refer to after they have completed treatment.
Individuals are guided through expressive therapies that use the creative process of making art to improve a person’s emotional and spiritual well-being. He or she will be able to process feelings that may be challenging to express through traditional talk therapy. Art activities may include painting, music, creative writing, and psychodrama.
During Ethos, individuals are given a theme at the beginning of the week and are asked to use all of the various expressive therapies to process the impact of addiction on their lives. They are also encouraged to focus on the changes that they need to enact as they move forward. At the end of the week, the individual will have created a piece of art that they will share and process with the community and therapist.
A community meeting is run by individuals with a specific agenda to address issues that they may encounter during treatment. Management will attend this meeting and address any problems brought forth by group participants. In doing this, people are allowed to be part of their personal recovery experience and are empowered to advocate for themselves.
The nursing department meets with individuals and educates them on nutrition, infectious diseases, and other related topics to inform the persons in treatment and answer any questions or concerns.
Individuals will be discussing discharge and aftercare planning with the appropriate professions from the beginning of treatment. The next step, however, is vital and including helping the person develop a longer-term continuum of care and have a better opportunity for success. An alumni coordinator will present to them aftercare options, sponsors, AA/NA meetings, along with other outpatient professionals, including therapists, psychiatrists, counselors, and community support options.
